Research areas:
- Ecophysiology of benthic and planktonic marine microalgae
- Influence of main environmental factors such as salinity, temperature and light on the growth, photosynthesis, fluorescence and photoacclimation mechanisms of natural algal communities and unialgal cultures
- The use of molecular methods in order to provide new insights into the taxonomy and phylogeny of Baltic algae
- Culture Collection of Baltic Algae (CCBA); currently the CCBA maintains more than 100 original Baltic strains including cyanobacteria and several algal groups: flagellates, green algae and diatoms
- Isolation of new algal strains from the Baltic Sea and Polish inland waters.
- The use of algal toxicity tests for the assessment of potential environmental risks caused by xenobiotics such as ionic liquids (ILs), perfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) and nanoparticles
- Taxonomy and morphology of Baltic algae - examined using light microscope (LM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM)
