Lecture by Dr Michał Skóra for Students of the University of Oxford
At the beginning of October, Dr Michał Skóra delivered a lecture on the invasion of Pacific pink salmon in the North Atlantic and Arctic regions, and its impact on the native Atlantic salmon. The lecture was prepared for master’s students on the Water Science, Policy and Management course at the University of Oxford (MSc in Water Science, Policy and Management | University of Oxford).
The event took place at the River Laboratory near Wareham in southern England, which hosts field units of Queen Mary University of London and Bournemouth University, as well as the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust’s Atlantic salmon and sea trout research centre, and laboratories of the Freshwater Biological Association. The Oxford students’ visit to the River Laboratory was one of their first field experiences as part of their degree programme.
This was already the fourth lecture given by Dr Skóra to students of the Water Science, Policy and Management course at this prestigious university.
Since 2021, Dr Michał Skóra has been conducting research at Queen Mary University of London on the invasion of pink salmon in the North Atlantic and Arctic regions. The project was initially launched thanks to a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship awarded by the European Commission (Dr Michał Skóra with Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Scholarship | NEWS - Uniwersytet Gdański), and has since been continued and expanded with financial support from the UK Arctic Office under the Supporting Impactful UK Arctic Science Engagement programmes (2024–2025 and 2025–2026), as well as the Queen Mary University of London Impact Fund.
