BlueBiotechnology ALLIANCE project meeting in Berlin

On 8-10 November 2017 in Berlin the fourth ALLIANCE (INTERREG BSR) Partner Meeting took place. The project brings together blue biotechnology actors from across the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) to develop innovative marine biotechnology based products and services. The event was hosted by the SUBMARINER Network.

The gathered ALLIANCE partners discussed project activities and plans in the form of workshops and presentations.

One of the most important actions of the ALLIANCE project is the a regularly conducted Call for Ideas for promising companies and entrepreneurs, as well as scholars who need a dedicated expert support in the development of a product or service based on blue biotechnology.

During the meeting in Berlin two ideas selected in the last edition of the ALLIANCE Call for Ideas, previously selected from several submitted initiatives, were presented. The panel of experts, consisting of business and science representatives, decided to include both ideas into the mentoring program of the ALLIANCE Baltic Blue Biotechnology consortium.

One of the selected cases is the idea submitted by dr. Aleksandra Zgrundo and dr. Justyna Kobos from the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography of University of Gdańsk, entitled "From bloom to smart bioproducts". The case is now covered by the mentoring with the appointed supervisors: the University of Gdansk and the SUBMARINER Network.

UG is already the mentor of three cases selected in previous calls.

The case owners also had the opportunity to take part in a special business training conducted by the consulting company Gaia and the representative of the innovation incubator Nidus Brands.

Next call for ideas will start at the beginning of 2018! You are welcome to submit your application!

The ALLIANCE project, funded from the INTERREG BSR Programme, started in March 2016. The project integrates partners from the Baltic Sea Region who are interested in blue biotechnology.

Dr. Katarzyna Palińska prof. UG: (katarzyna.palinska@ug.edu.pl) is a project leader at UG.
